FRESH MARTA MARKETS OPEN FOR SEASON

Locally-Sourced Produce Available Weekly at 5 Rail Stations

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will open its popular Fresh MARTA Markets at West End on June 30, Bankhead on July 8, College Park on July 16, Five Points on July 24, and H.E. Holmes on July 29.

Initially launched in 2015, Fresh MARTA Markets provide nutritious, affordable, locally-sourced produce in neighborhoods considered "food deserts" or areas where the availability of fresh food is limited.

"These markets not only serve our riders but because of their convenient locations, they are a fresh food resource for entire communities," said MARTA General Manager and CEO Jeffrey Parker. “We are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle and these produce markets enable us to bridge the nutritional gap from the convenience of our rail stations.”

MARTA, along with managing partners Community Farmers Markets and Organix Matters, and community partners Atlanta Community Food Bank, Open Hand, and Wholesome Wave Georgia will provide fresh produce once a week beginning the last week of June through the first week of December. The markets are supported by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Sustainability - Power to Change, Perkins + Will, Finishing Touch Remodeling, and MARTA’s community partners.

The Fresh MARTA Markets are open Tuesdays at West End, Wednesdays at Bankhead and H.E. Holmes, Thursdays at College Park, and Fridays at Five Points from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. All market staff will wear masks and gloves and regularly sanitize work stations. To further protect your health, wear a mask or facial covering while shopping, maintain a distance of six feet between yourself and others, and request all produce from a staff member.

The markets accept cash, credit, debit, and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT)/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is doubled at the market, meaning $5 swiped is $10 to spend.
