Major Matthew Carrier began his law enforcement career with the MARTA Police Department in 2003 as a patrol officer in the South Precinct. He rose through the ranks to sergeant and lieutenant and served in positions on the Bike Patrol, Motorcycle Patrol Unit, the Department’s Crime Suppression Team, the
Motor Coordinator, and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force with duties as the Rail Liaison Agent and Assistant WMD Coordinator.
Major Carrier was promoted to Major in 2017 and held assignments as the commander of North Precinct, South Precinct and Special Operations before his current assignment as the Central Precinct Commander. His areas of responsibility include areas from Five Points Station and west to H.E. Holmes as well as Peachtree Center
and Georgia State Stations.
Major Carrier holds certifications in International Police Mountain Bike Association, Police Motorcycle Operator, Special Weapons and Tactics, and HSEEP Evaluator.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of West Georgia and his Master of Science degree in Public Safety Administration in 2021 through the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University. He
is a member of Atlanta Metropol, Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and National Tactical Officers Association.
